Red Knights Swim to State

Congratulations to our Red Knight swimmers who qualified for the 2024 Minnesota High School League (MSHSL) boys’ swimming & diving State Tournament! This year marks a significant milestone in school history, as a Red Knight has qualified for State in every single swimming event, including both individual competitions and relays.

“It was really great seeing the boys put in the work this season and have fun while doing so,” said head coach Ryan Miksch. “They got excited to see their teammates have success which creates a great environment. They swam really well at sections and are ready to go for State!”

The boys’ swim and dive team made a splash at the Section 2A meet held February 22-24, placing third as a team and individual student-athletes qualifying for State in their respective events:

  • 200 Free – Mason Rokala ‘25 (3rd Place)

  • 200 IM – Lucas Haenel ‘24 (5th Place) 

  • 50 Free – Lucas Wurst ‘25 (3rd Place)

  • 100 Fly – Joey Sandhoefner ‘25 (3rd Place)

  • 100 Free – Lucas Wurst ‘25 (2nd Place)

  • 500 Free – Mason Rokala ‘25 (2nd Place)

  • 100 Back – Lucas Haenel ‘24 (2nd Place)

  • 100 Breast – Joey Sandhoefner ‘25 (2nd Place)

The three relay teams (200 MR, 200, and 400 FRR) made up of the following swimmers, will compete at State:

  • 200 Medley Relay (2nd Place)

    • Haenel, Sandhoefner, Wurst, Will Gadtke ‘25

  • 200 Free Relay (3rd Place)

    • Gadtke, Rokala, Zane Lester ‘28, Sandhoefner

  • 400 Free Relay (4th Place)

    • Haenel, Rokala, Lester, Wurst

Four school records were set at Section finals:

  • 200 MR: Haenel, Sandhoefner, Wurst, Gadtke – 1:39.38

  • 200 IM: Haenel – 2:03.47

  • 100 Fly: Sandhoefner – 54.10

  • 100 BR: Sandhoefner – 58.20

The 2024 MSHSL Boys’ Swim & Dive State Tournament will be held Thursday, Feb. 29 – Saturday, Mar. 2 at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota. The two day event begins at noon with preliminaries Friday, March 1, and finals at noon on Saturday, March 2. Tickets and more information about the tournament can be found here.
