Red Knights Aim for Third State Title

gbbThe Benilde-St. Margaret’s girls’ basketball team is headed to the MSHSL State tournament, where they will defend their 2024 Class AAA State title. Having claimed the girls’ basketball state championship for the past two years, the Red Knights are poised to secure a third consecutive title, aiming for an impressive three-peat.

“This year’s schedule was the toughest we’ve ever had,” said head coach Tim Ellefson. “We were challenged from the first game with top teams and fierce competition, and this helped us appreciate that winning is difficult. It takes all of us to have a collective goal and requires teamwork. Everyone depends on each other.”

Our Red Knights embraced the tough competition throughout the season, and it has paid off as they now stand on the brink of a three-peat. The team’s emphasis on unity and teamwork has been at the heart of their success.

“Late in the season, we really started to see the benefits of our hard work. It has all come together now,” Ellefson said. “We are celebrating our success, and we’re celebrating great team play.”

The Red Knights will face the Stewartville Tigers in the quarterfinals game on Wednesday, March 12 at 10 a.m. The game will be held at the Maturi Pavillion on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota.

Tickets and further information about the tournament can be found on the MSHSL website. Regular updates will be provided on this announcement as the tournament progresses.
