BSM Speech Student Heads to Nationals

Brynja LockmanBrynja Lockman ’25 has qualified for the National Speech 

and Debate Association (NSDA) Tournament in Extemporaneous Speaking a

fter placing sixth at the Minnesota State High School League’s (MSHSL) Class AA State Speech Tournament.

After Lockman competed in the MSHSL State Tournament, she participated in the NSDA national qualifying tournament where she placed fourth in a field of more than 100 students.

The national tournament will take place June 16, 21 in Des Moines, Iowa. Lockman will represent Benilde-St. Margaret’s against 6,700 of the best forensics students from 1,500 schools across the country.

In recent years, BSM has been represented at the national level by Jackie Bucaro ’21 and Aidan Marks ’23 who both qualified twice, as juniors and seniors.

In other MSHSL 2024 Class AA State Speech Tournament results, Michael McDonald ’24 placed third in Creative Expression.
