BSM Golfers on Course to State

May 30, 2024

Boys Golf:

Congratulations are in order for the BSM boys’ golf team, which advanced to the 2024 Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Golf Tournament! This year marks the first time BSM’s team has qualified since 2003, a significant milestone in school history.

The Red Knights competed in sections held at The Meadows at Mystic Lake on May 28-29, walking away with a 14-shot victory over Edina. The team shot a combined 282 (-6) on day one and 291 (+3) on day two, led by individual champion Patrick Hastings ’26, who shot (-4).

“We beat Edina, which was our goal at the beginning of the year, and I think what really helped us was playing at a neutral site this year,” said head coach Dave Herbst. “Braemar Golf Course was Edina’s home course, while The Meadows at Mystic Lake is definitely a tougher course. They put it together at the end, which is what you really want. You want to peak at the right time, and that’s exactly what we did.”

Last season Carter Callan ‘25 and Henry Trent ‘24 qualified as individuals for the State tournament, an experience that will benefit the team as the two will enter State play already familiar with the course.

Herbst, who has been leading the program for 10 years, shared his optimism for the future, “We’ll continue to see a strong team in the years to come. This is some of the best golf I’ve seen in a long time.”

The 2024 MSHSL Class AAA Boys’ Golf State Tournament will be held June 11 – 12 at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids. Tickets and more information about the state tournament can be found here.

Girls’ Golf:

BSM girls’ golf also has reason to celebrate, finishing in third place at Sections with Alyssa Raghuveer ‘26 qualifying as an individual for the State tournament for the second consecutive year.

“Alyssa works incredibly hard on her golf game and seeing her find so much success this season has been incredibly rewarding for all of us,” said head coach Mike Johnston. “Alyssa is a leader on our team and her work ethic and desire to be better than yesterday motivates all of us to work harder for each other.”

Raghuveer is fresh off last season’s achievements, including earning All-Conference honors and finishing 43rd in the State finals. She now enters State play after a first-place finish at the Sections tournament held at The Meadows at Mystic Lake on May 28-29 where she shot 77 on day one and 70 on day two for a total score of 147.

“She has already found success at Bunker Hills this year, winning the Tri-State Invitational against some strong competition, and we look forward to the challenge of trying to win the State Tournament in June,” said Johnston.
