BSM Announces 2024 Athletic Hall of Fame Honorees

“Athletic competition is a powerful educational experience that promotes the development of leadership, self-confidence, sportsmanship, and commitment to a team,” said Rick Johns ’70, BSM athletic & activities director. “Benilde-St. Margaret’s has a long and storied athletics history. The legacies of this year’s honorees exemplify the excellence and character which reflects what it means to be a BSM Red Knight.”

On Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, the tenth class of the BSM Athletics Hall of Fame will be officially inducted at the Edina Country Club.

Honorees will be recognized for their contributions to the success, administration, and traditions of BSM athletic programs. Tickets for the event can be purchased on our website.

Attendees will hear anecdotes and stories of their individual and team achievements, highlighting their passion, commitment, and camaraderie as teammates. “The efforts of these individuals and teams honor the history and traditions of St. Margaret’s Academy, Benilde High School, and Benilde St. Margaret’s School,” Johns said.

Congratulations to the members of this year’s BSM Athletic Hall of Fame. May your enthusiasm, dedication and leadership be an inspiration for our current and future Red Knights.


Jon Hanks

Long-time football coach who led the 2016-2017 football team to win the state championship.

Haley Jerabek Liberty ’13

Girls’ soccer state champion in 2012 and accomplished runner. She continued her career in cross country and track at Xavier University in Cincinnati.

Jon Lynch ’08

Quarterback for the 2007-2008 BSM football team, engineering the team’s run in the state tournament. He continued his career with the UMD Bulldogs, leading the team to much post-season success.

Johnny Mulvahill ’12

Named 2011 Mr. Soccer from the BSM state tournament team which won the MSHSL state title. He was captain of the team twice. He continued his career at St. Thomas as a standout athlete, serving as captain twice, leading the Tommie’s to the Final Four in 2015.

Kelly Pannek ’14

Olympic gold (2018) and silver (2022) medalist in women’s hockey and member of the first Walter Cup for the Professional Women’s Hockey League. She’s received several other honors throughout her athletic career, including 2013 Ms. Soccer and six world championship medals.

Khadijah Shumpert ’12

A force for the girls’ basketball team from 2008- 2012, leading her team to the four conference titles and a state championship in 2010. She continued her career at the University of New Mexico.

Jim Wander 

Legendary girls’ cross country and track coach as well as beloved teacher for 38 years. Coached numerous athletes in several state tournaments.

1997-1998 Boys’ Soccer Team

Responsible for winning the first ever BSM boys’ soccer state title.
