As the fall season draws to a close the BSM community has witnessed a combination of talent, teamwork, and perseverance across a wide range of athletics and activities. Each team and group has shown remarkable growth and dedication. BSM students continue to shine through inspiring seasons, championship spirit, and service to others. Now is the time to celebrate their hard work, unforgettable moments and bright futures.
Boys’ Soccer
The BSM boys’ soccer team has had a wonderful season full of action-packed games and admirable teamwork. Their season has been extremely successful with a current record of ten wins, seven losses, and two ties. Rory Keady ‘27 says his favorite part of playing soccer for BSM is “playing with his teammates and how much effort they put into every practice and game.” As they near the end of the fall sports season, the team hopes to have a successful time in sections and make it to the state tournament. BSM is proud of how far the boys have come and how much they have grown throughout this amazing season.
Girls’ Soccer
The BSM girls’ soccer team had a great season coming off their state championship last season. Despite losing during the section semi-finals, this team has a great bond on and off the field from their team dinners and trips. Captain Brooke Hillins ‘26 stated, “My favorite memory from this season was definitely going up to Duluth for our game against Hermantown” As the season ended, this team looks to bounce back next season and make it back to the state tournament.
RKVC
Red Knights Volunteer Corps (RKVC) is one of the biggest clubs at BSM. RKVC is a club where students can get involved and help out in the community. Recently, there have been meetings about how RKVC can expand. Ana Zitzer ‘26, a RKVC board member, says, “We started talking to more event coordinators to get more volunteer opportunities for the students.” We hope to get lots of volunteers to help out throughout the school year.
Football
The Red Knights have had an up and down season this year under new head Coach Brad Anderson. The football team started off the 2024 campaign with a road win against the Willmar Cardinals, but fell to 1-3 including an especially tough 42-7 loss at Totino Grace, when they lost junior quarterback Peyton Myers to a wrist injury in the game. The team did bounce back with a win against SMB Wolfpack led by junior running back Javion Kellog and new quarterback Luke Guggenburger. Since then, they had one loss to rival Holy Angels during this year’s Homecoming game, and a win against the Delano Tigers. To cap off the season, the Red Knights lost to Mound Westonka. The Red Knights will start the quarterfinal playoffs with a bye.
Boys’ Cross Country
The boys’ cross country season has been a roll this year, honing in on their impressive long distance skills. Starting off by hosting the Red Knight invitational, the boys ran their hearts out and made it onto their overnight experience at the Pre Nike Cross regionals. Captain Sebastian Cerda ‘25 said, “this was so much fun and a once-in-a-career experience for the team. I’m glad that we were able to do something with so much coverage on the sport!” The season later developed the runners further at the Run the Game Ball for the Cross Country Homecoming, with 3 new runners joining the team. They then continued with their campaigns, filled with team-bonding banquets, and won the Jordan invitationals, leading them to be gearing up for the section and state meets they will face for the year.
Dance
The fall dance team has enjoyed performing at all of the home football games, along with a boys’ soccer game! They recently revealed the highly anticipated annual boy-girl dance at the Homecoming pepfest. The team has enjoyed all of their team bonding, before and after games. Senior member of the team, Kate Cornell stated, “Our team really got to know each other well this year. Dance team Olympics and breakfast before games really brought us closer together!”
Caring for the Courageous
Caring for the Courageous has had an amazing start to the school year! Over 75 new members joined the club at the activities fair. CFC hosted the Common Basket at the homecoming Mass and raised money to donate gift bags to the M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital in downtown Minneapolis. “It was a very cool opportunity to host the Common Basket this fall because the money donated will make such a huge difference in kids’ lives!” said Annika Olson ‘25. Additionally, the girls’ tennis team hosted their annual team service event where they handmade tie blankets and put together 36 bags which will soon be donated to a local hospital!
Girls’ Cross Country
Girls’ cross country runs into sections this week as they close out their season. Junior captain Charlotte Feller says this about their season, “We had a lot of new 7th graders who improved a lot throughout the season and won some awards. At the high school level, many people improved a lot through the season and won t-shirts at meets.” As their season wraps up many of the runners are happy about the improvements of their times throughout this year.
Girls’ Swim & Dive
The BSM swim team has been such an amazing group to be a part of this year. Everyone is super supportive, and the environment is always positive and uplifting. As Olivia Kremenak ’26 puts it, “The team has been such a loving and caring environment this year, all the girls here have a close bond and it’s an amazing team.” Whether at practice or meets, the bond the team has built has really brought them closer together and helped them push themselves to do their best. As sections are approaching the swim team is excited to put all their hard work in the pool.
Cheerleaders
The BSM cheer team experienced a transformative season this fall, focusing on technique and skill with a smaller squad. The team thrived by honing individual abilities, fostering a supportive camaraderie, and showcasing impressive progress in stunts, cheers, and tumbling at every event. The energy the team brought to the stands truly uplifted school spirit, and the bond the team forged will serve as a solid foundation as the team looks forward to welcoming new members and building their successes next season.
Girls’ Volleyball
The BSM girls’ volleyball team has had a season full of fun and excitement both on and off the court. Being a very young team, they have worked hard to build solid foundations for the program, and have shown great improvement in winning games throughout the season. Recently, they won their annual Dig Pink Tournament for the fourth consecutive year, something the team is very proud of. Captain Sailor Friedly ‘27 stated, “With good past leadership we know the amount of work it takes to be great. As we continue to develop as a team over the next two years we have the potential to be one of the top teams in the state.” Good luck to the volleyball team as they compete in sections!
Girls’ Tennis
The BSM girls’ tennis team finished their season this past month in a close section match against Washburn. They ended their season with a record of 10-12. For individual sections, Annika Olson ’25 and Josie Dvorak ’25 put up a strong fight in their three individual sections matches. According to team member Anna Brown ’25, “I’m sad to see the season end, but I’m glad I got to be part of such a special team.”
Letters of Love
The first Letters of Love took place for the month of October. People gathered together to create cards for children in hospitals to help brighten their day, making them colorful with inspiring messages. According to KK Geherin ’25, president of the club, “The first meeting was a success, with multiple BSM students bringing a smile to the faces of children in hospitals.” Their plans for the rest of the year are to continue holding a meeting each month to make cards.
