What is Ultimate?: Combining the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing skills of football, a game of ultimate is played by two teams with a flying disc on a field with end zones, similar to football. The object of the game is to score by catching a pass in the opponent’s end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc, but may pivot and pass to any of the other receivers on the field.

Time Commitment: Mid March through the first week in June. Practice 2-3 hours a week (Two practices a week) and one 2 hour game a week (usually about three days a week)

Beginnings: The girls’ ultimate program started in the spring of 2016. Before that, the girls played on the boys’ team as they didn’t have enough players to make a complete roster themselves. In 2017, the team had just seven girls, the minimum needed to play. Now, BSM is one of the largest teams in the state, with a varsity and JV program totaling around 50 players. BSM is one of four teams in the state with a JV program, demonstrating the strong team culture that encourages many players to try a new sport when they come to BSM.

The Red Knights won the conference championship in the spring of 2022 and have built on that success to win the Division 2 State title this year.
